How to Lead between the Front Lines - Insights from a German FIFA Referee.
Football, with an estimated following of 4 billion people, has a global sphere of influence. The referee as a neutral person plays a pivotal role on the field as it is his/her responsibility to lead a game of victory or defeat, in which every decision can be of greatest importance.
Decision making is often not easy, when it involves uncertainty, high-risk consequences and complexity. During a soccer match more than 200 decisions must be made by the referee and only a small share can be decided based on the FIFA rulebook, the majority of the decisions are based on experience, instinct and strong leadership skills.
In order to be able to analyze a complex situation that occurs under the eyes of millions, a referee needs to possess a certain set of competencies to be successful.
But skills like strong leadership and communication, decisiveness, conflict resolution and assertiveness are not only applicable in sports, but also in the business context:
- What personality traits and competencies are important for leaders and managers in companies that create acceptance by all parties?
- How to make clear, wise and fast decisions under pressure and how to deal with a wrong decision?
As an experienced FIFA and DFB referee for several years, Mr. Marco Fritz will draw parallels between the requirements as a top referee and a business leader and offer the attendees new perspectives on current leadership topics.
