The worklife of many of us is characterized by a highly demanding work culture where stress is widespread and in some cases there is even the risk of burnout. The pace is fast, the intensity of contemporary work culture is high and most of us are reachable through social media around the clock.

As this culture is not likely to change, it is more important than ever to build resilience skills to effectively navigate worklife and related stress. The World Health Organization even describes stress as the “global health epidemic of the 21st century.”

Our work culture is a reflection of the increasing complexity faced by businesses globally. Stress is being part of our lives and it is important to mention that in some cases stress may have a positive effect on our well-being and productivity. In most cases stress is nevertheless perceived as negative and unhealthy. It is crucial to have an understanding of the factors that cause us to feel stressed and overwhelmed at work and cultivate resilience. Resilience is a person’s capacity to respond to pressure and the demands of daily life and working environment.

The question is: How can we develop resilience skills and stay motivated in the face of chronic negative stress?
