PROGRAM BACKGROUND | OBJECTIVES & SETTING
WHY: Our planet’s environment and with that our quality of life are at stake due to unprecedented urbanization. German and Chinese partners have it all, the technology, the knowledge, the markets, the common ground of 40 plus years of collaboration. The field of sustainability is THE strategic interface of Germany and China. Let’s move on to the next level of collaboration and innovate for cautious city making!
BACKGROUND: The Network for Architecture Exchange NAX – an initiative of the Federal Chamber of German Architects (BAK) - is hosting an investigation journey to China including a workshop in Beijing ‘on Cautious Urban Renewal & Urban Environmental Planning for Sustainable Cities’ as a key element of the program and further investigation activities in cooperation with Tongji University in Shanghai. It is supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) in the frame of its scheme ‘Export Initiative Environmental Technologies’.
CALLING QUESTION: How can architects - and further partners in the value chain - contribute to cautious urban renewal for sustainable cities?
PARTICIPANTS: 40 selected participants, including Chinese city representatives, developers, investors, architects, industry partners, city makers. Chinese city representatives are invited in collaboration with the Sino-German Urbanization Partnership, with ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability and its new Beijing chapter as well as with dena – The German Energy Agency and its Chinese partner, the Chinese Society of Urban Studies, and their joint ecocities projects.
